1.1.1 Introduction |
Welcome to this, the ninth operational edition of the Knowsley Children's Social Care Manual. This version of the manual features a complete integration with the Knowsley Safeguarding Children Board Procedures Manual. This edition works in the same way as the last version and you can still find your way round this manual, and the SCB manual in the same way as you did formerly, using features such as the forward and back buttons that you see on other websites. Guidance on the detail of how to use the manual can be found by clicking on the 'Quick Guide' button, which can be found on the left side of every page.
A number of changes and revisions have been made to this manual and these can be used by viewing the Amendments in the Quick Guide. To prompt and assist you further, the new and revised chapters are noted as such in the contents list and at the head of each new and revised chapter.Despite being simple to use and easily navigated the manual contains in excess of a hundred files and it has taken the best part of a year to develop it into the form that you see now. One of the best features is that it is very easy to make changes to the manual and this is particularly useful when new legislation and guidance is implemented in Knowsley as the manual can be changed in one place and only the most current version is available for use.
Inevitably because the manual is so big, you the users may spot errors and inconsistencies in the text and functionality of the manual or even find a link that doesn't work. Equally, you may feel that something should be added or changed. In each case please discuss the issue you have identified with your line manager and bring such issues to the attention of Paul Davies, who is responsible for the manual (see below for contact details), so that these things can get sorted out as quickly as possible. This will keep the manual up-to-date and ensure we are providing a service that effectively safeguards and promotes the welfare of children young people who are receiving a high quality service and that that effectively safeguards and promotes the welfare of the children and young people who are receiving a service from us.

Finally when you open the manual you will be invited to read the Values and Principles section and it is important that this is familiar to you before you use the rest of the manual because they are what underpins the work of the Local Authority.
